µFR Zero Online Major Upgrade: Power over Ethernet & Solid State Relays

µFR Zero Online Major Upgrade

Network NFC readers/writers with Power over Ethernet and Solid State Relays

Digital Logic announces a significant enhancement to its µFR Zero Online NFC reader/writer, now featuring Power over Ethernet (PoE) support and integrated Solid State Relays. These integrations are not merely a technical improvement; they fundamentally alter deployment efficiency and broaden the application scope for engineers and integrators.

Enhanced Connectivity and Power Delivery

With PoE support, the µFR Zero Online can now receive both power and data over a single Ethernet cable. This advancement eliminates the need for separate power wiring, reduces installation time and costs, and makes the device suitable for environments where access to power outlets is limited or impractical.

This feature is particularly beneficial for:

  • Remote access points,

  • Industrial and outdoor installations,

  • Clean, minimal cabling scenarios.

Integrated Solid State Relays for Direct Device Control

A key functional enhancement is the inclusion of solid-state relays (available in specific Access Control variants). These relays allow the µFR Zero Online to directly control external electronic components, such as door locks, gates, or signal systems, based on NFC validation events.

Benefits include:

  • Instant hardware activation triggered by tag reading,

  • Simplified architectures (no external control units needed),

  • Streamlined, cost-efficient deployments in compact systems.

The upgraded µFR Zero Online operates at 13.56 MHz, with reading ranges up to:

  • 100 mm (3.94 in) for ISO15693,

  • 75 mm (2.95 in) for ISO14443 A/B.

Supported communication interfaces include:

  • USB (CDC, NCP),

  • UART, SPI, GPIO,

  • Wi-Fi, BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy),

  • Ethernet and PoE.

Comprehensive SDK for Developers

A complete Software Development Kit (SDK) is available and includes:

  • External libraries, source code examples, and API references,

  • Detailed documentation and cross-platform support for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, Arduino, ESP32, and more.

Multiple programming languages are supported, including  C, C++, C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, NodeJS, React, and others.

Versatile Applications and Offline Capabilities

Thanks to its modular architecture and connectivity options, the µFR Zero Online is ideal for:

  • Access Control – secure and responsive authentication in high-traffic areas,

  • Time & Attendance – accurate personnel tracking via NFC cards,

  • Automation Systems – reliable NFC-triggered control mechanisms,

  • Event Management – fast and efficient ticket validation,

  • Museum Experiences – engaging and informative tag-based interactivity.

To ensure operational continuity, the device includes integrated memory (ESP32, EEPROM, or FRAM) and optional microSD card support for local log storage. In the event of network disruptions, all data is safely stored and automatically synchronized once the connection is restored.

Future-Proof and Integration-Ready

With the integration of PoE and solid-state relays, the µFR Zero Online now boasts an already robust set of features, including BluetoothWi-Fi, and Ethernet, making it a future-ready, developer-centric platform.

It delivers a reliable, scalable, and highly adaptable solution for contactless identification, automation, and control systems across industries — from infrastructure and security to smart environments and interactive exhibits.
