Improved µFR Zero Online Firmware Solution

Improved µFR Zero Online Firmware Solution

We are pleased to announce an important upgrade in the firmware management system for µFR Zero Online devices.
Starting with ESP32 firmware version 3.0.82, the current flashing system is replaced by a unified firmware package solution, making the update process easier, faster, and more reliable.

Unified Firmware Packages

Instead of flashing the ESP32 main controller and the NFC reader-writer separately, the system now uses firmware packages.

  • When clicking “Check for Updates” in the device frontend, you no longer see individual firmware versions.
  • Instead, you are offered packages in the format:

Zero_Online_YYYYMMDD

Here, the date indicates the package creation date, and a newer date corresponds to a newer firmware version.
Selecting a package automatically installs the predefined firmware versions on both the ESP32 main unit and the NFC reader hardware, ensuring they are always mutually compatible and equally advanced.

Faster and Smarter Updates

The new system also includes a built-in check:

  • If the installed firmware versions are already up to date, they are not reinstalled, which significantly speeds up the update process.

Specialized Firmware Packages

In addition to the standard Zero_Online package, two specialized package types are available:

  • Zero_Online_Lite_YYYYMMDD – for Lite variants of the device.
  • Zero_Online_LogMode_YYYYMMDD – for devices with supported log mode.

These ensure that all µFR Zero Online hardware variants are properly covered.

Downgrade Option

If your project requires using firmware versions released before this upgrade, you can still downgrade your device using the desktop flashing tool: uFR Online Flasher OneClick

Summary

This new firmware package system for µFR Zero Online devices, introduced with ESP32 firmware 3.0.82, brings:

  • Unified flashing of both the ESP32 and the NFC reader-writer
  • Easier selection of compatible versions
  • Faster updates with built-in version checks
  • Dedicated package variants for Lite and Log Mode devices

This upgrade simplifies firmware management while ensuring all µFR Zero Online devices remain up to date with the latest supported features.
